Q: Would you get a Hybrid Chevy Tahoe or regular Tahoe LT2 if they are the same price?
Dealer said they can get me a Tahoe Hybrid fully loaded brand new 2009, for the same price. My concern, is Hybrid better or worse? Sure it might save some city mileage, but are there other costs and repair/service issues that can cost more?

A: The Tahoe Hybrid has a warranty on all hybrid components with NO deductible, and it’s good for 8 years/100,000 miles. The warranty is also fully transferable to the new owner if you sell the car. Unless you plan on keeping your vehicle for longer than that, I would absolutely take the Hybrid knowing you will reap huge gasoline savings. Chevy knows that they won’t sell the hybrid without backing their claims, and now that they are out of bankruptcy protection you have no worries.

Q: If I purchase a 2009 Chevy Tahoe Hybrid in August or September 2009 and get the full tax credit for hybrids?
We were trying, to do cash for clunkers, but the program is not family friendly, you cannot purchase a full size SUV for under $45′000, well im sure you could but the other rules require it to be new not used. And to meet the MPG it has to be a hybrid, so were turning to Hybrid tax credits.

A: Yes, you can get the full $2200 tax credit for the Tahoe Hybrid (as long as you are not at or above the tax bracket for the Alternative Minimum Tax).

The tax credits for GM hybrids are nowhere near expiring, because they haven’t sold anywhere near 60,000 of them (that’s the cutoff point).

To claim the credit, you file a Form 8910 with your next year’s 1040 tax return (if you buy the car this year).

It also requires a durable vehicle that does well off-road–often on farms, construction sites and in the snow. I’ve been driving a luxury sedan (that get’s GREAT mileage) for a long time, but have gotten myself in some tough situations that have involved almost needing a tow truck and bottoming out on rough roads. I like a roomy vehicle for transporting clients (and friends on the weekends) and I need one that can handle snow and off-roading. I’m in sales and in the Midwest, so an American car is likey a good idea as well–thus my interest in the Tahoe. But I can’t justify buying a vehicle that guzzles gas (especially with prices going up everyday), so I’m considering waiting until next year. What type of mileage can I expect from the Tahoe Hybrid assuming I cut off the fuel and switch to electric when possible? Any other vehicles to consider?

A: It is a great SUV. I think it is perfect for those family that “need” a large SUV. The MPG is as good as a typical sedan in the city.

It is a bit on the pricey side.

Other user mentioned MB diesel. That version is NOT offered in California. Plus diesel are dirtier than gas/hybrid.
