Q: Ford Focus?
I have a 1999 Ford Focus 1.8 petrol (65 000 miles) and wondered how long the catalytic converter should last and has anyone else with this model had to have one yet?

A: government regs make manufacturer responsible foe 10 yrs…

Q: ford focus?
Hello people,
I need to change my manuel car for an automatic because of my misses.Because i still owe money on my manuel car the only thing i seem to be able to get credet on is a ford focus 1.6lx auto.the car is an x reg(2000)and has done 44500 miles.it looks nice but the garage will not give out a years warrenty, the garage is a proper vauxhall dealer.any advice and any experiences i would be gratefull to you for.many thanks
also…..who is it up to weather you get a warrenty or not,is it the salesman, the finance company or who?

A: I have been driving a 2001 ford focus for five years and I never had any issues with it
If you really want to get that car you might consider requesting quotes from warranty companies, see http://www.extendautowarranty.info for some quick quotes, to see if it might be worth
The fact that the dealer isn’t giving you a warranty is strange, dealers usually earn on warranties.
That said, a dealer that refuses to sell me a warranty on a car would make me suspicious,if this doesn’t depend on something like that this dealer can’t sell you warranties on non vauxhall vehicles or something like this: if he won’t give you any warranty and you’re not purchasing a separate one I wouldn’t get a car that he wants to sell without any warranty
In case you decided to get the car without any kind of warranty visit the dealer with a mechanic you trust and make him examine the car, just to make sure that the car hasn’t been in a major accident

Q: FORD Focus?
The ford timing belt renewal interval is 100 000 miles / 10 years. My question is if a ford focus 1.8 petrol has covered 100 000 miles or is 10 years old, and the mechanic changing the timing belt and tensioner considers that the idler pulley is still working properly and doesn’t change it, how is the car owner supposed to know when or if in the future it will need doing?

A: The mechanic can certainly recommend the tensioner and idler be replaced as preventive maintenance as long as he’s in there. As the vehicle owner you may elect to replace them or not replace them. It is your choice. But you do take the risk that either could fail in the future. They probably won’t, but they could. The choice is yours.

Q: Ford focus?
I own a 1999 T reg Ford Focus 1.8 petrol and wondered if anyone knows how long the timing belt idler pulley should last.

A: Hi

If its the plastic one then I would replace it when you replace the belt.

To be honest, every belt change for me is a whole kit, not just the belt, and if the belt has to come off for whatever reason, unless its younger than 2 years old, then I insist on a belt and tensioner kit.

Its not a good idea to retension an old belt.

Cheers

Q: I have a 2001 Ford focus and my key is stuck in the ignition?
I have a 2001 ford focus and yesterday i went to start my car and the key wouldnt go in the ignition to start it, finally i got the key in and got it started. Now when i shut the car off the key is completely stuck in the ignition and wont budge no matter how much i try. Does anyone know any tips on how i can get the key out or why it is stuck?

A: Actually, the best advice for your situation is to NOT remove the key from the ignition, if you can still start your car or shut it off. If you need to leave your car unattended, leave the key in the ignition with the door locked, and use your spare key. BUT, drive it straight to your nearest Ford dealer at your earliest convience and ask for part number SW-6285 to be keyed to match your key, and installed . This is the updated style lock cylinder that is used on 2005 to current model year Focuses. By taking my advice, your labour charge to replace the lock cylinder will be around $100.00, instead of $300.00 plus towing if you manage to remove the key, and end up unable to restart your vehicle. This is an extremely common issue with Focuses from model years 2000 to 2004. Hope this helps.

Q: How do I clean the inside of my Ford Focus headlights?
There is a film (of dirt?) covering the plastic on my 2000 Ford Focus headlights. How do I remove the headlight or lens cap to clean it?

A: Only way to have dirt and crud on the inside of the headlight is if it is cracked and broken and dirt is getting inside. Usually the plastic gets a “milky” or smokey tint to it that can most times be restored or removed by putting a good coating of rainx on the headlight outside and rubbing well. It is amazing how well this works on some that are almost no longer transparent. Try it if you get a chance.

Q: What is wrong with a Ford Focus if you have to almost floor it to get it going?
My friend has a Ford Focus, its had some damage to the drivers front food and windshield replaced. When it gets cold, around 30 degrees, you have to almost floor it to get it going. Can you tell me what might be causing this? After driving a few mins on highway it runs normal again. Does it just need warmed up or maybe something to do with the battery, if maybe the battery is on that side that got hit?

A: it may have something to do with the battery, but most likely the poblem is that the engine isnt warmed up, when startin the car at that temperture you need to wait at least five minutes with the engine running and After you do that it should run normaly.

Q: Ford Focus dash and dome flash on and off with no one around?
I have a 2002 Ford Focus. When it sits in the driveway (unoccupied and no key in it) the dash lights blink on and off and the dome light comes on and off. Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting or similar problems is appreciated.
A short is what I figured but where to start looking for it is the bigger issue.
No aftermarket alarm system installed so this is not the problem. I am still pretty confident it’s a short but have no idea where to start testing.

A: sounds like a short…

Q: How do you remove a 2001 Ford Focus Engine?
So my husband is trying to help a friend replace a 2001 Ford Focus engine, but the problem is that for the life of them they can’t get the original engine out because it’s stuck. They go to lift it out and they end up lifting up the entire car! Any tips?

A: tell them to check and make sure all the mount bolts are loose and out of the way,and all th linkage is out of the way,you have to lean those to get them out,i have did a few before and their no fun at all to get out,the front of the engine has to come up first, good luck.

Q: How much is a totaled 2000 Ford Focus worth?
Ok so my car is totaled, its a 2000 Ford Focus SE with 102k miles on it, the windshield is broke out, the air bags are deployed and the front is pretty smashed up and both main bumper mounting brace parts of the frame are bent. Everything mechanical is still good and the car is still good from the front doors back. How much can I expect to sell it for?

A: my answer is try to check it out first on auto repair shop…

Q: Why is my Ford Focus having trouble with acceleration?
I own a 2000 Ford Focus and sometimes it squeals during accelaration, followed by jerking, as if it’s not getting enough fuel. I’ve replaced the EGR valve, catalytic converter and O2 sensors. The air filter, spark plugs and wires have been replaced and so has the PCV valve. The check engine light remains on even after it’s been turned off. Should i replace the fuel injectors and filter?

A: IT’S A FORD FOCUS!!!
It was actually determined that the Ford Focus has so many problems it shouldn’t even be on the road!! They are junk!!!

Q: Is the starter on my ford focus covered by warranty?
I bought a 07 ford focus and it has only 14000 miles on it and the starter quit. I bought the car used from a chevy dealer. Would the starter be covered under warranty? Also where should I go to have the starter replaced, the dealer where I bought it from (Chevy) or to a Ford dealer?

A: Take it to a Ford dealer.
It is covered under the warranty & won’t cost you anything!
Your bumper to bumper warranty is 3yr/36,000mi & your powertrain warranty is 5yr/100,000mi.
You also have FREE Roadside assiatance (which you can use NOW to tow your vehicle to the nearest Dealer for the starter replacement).
The number to call for the Roadside Assistance (towing & other free services) is 1(800)241-FORD.
Have your vehicle identification number handy & the registered owners name (I assume the vehicle is in your name?).

There should have been a set of books (owners manuals) included with your vehicle.
If the Chevy dealer didn’t provide you with the “warranty guide” booklet, you can download it free from Fords website.
Here is the link to that download: (save it to your computer or print it for future reference)

Q: What mods can i Make to my Ford Focus to increase Gas mileage?
I own a Ford Focus ZX3 2001 model. I don’t want to be forced to use a higher octane fuel after the mods.

A: you can add the short air intake and the header exhaust pipes. I’ve had both done and it (a) increase power (b) increased MPG (just a little).
=====

There are few thing you can do to save (or maximize) gas MPG. First get a tune-up.

(1) spark plugs
(2) spark plug wires
(3) distributors, coil, rotors (if you have them).
(4) new air filter
(5) PCV
(6) correct tire pressure
(7) clear the trunk of useless heavy items
(8) spray clean MAF sensor.

=====
Forget all those “SAVE GAS” scams. This was on NBC morning TV show. The difference is as much as 38% (their claim). There are very simple rules to save gas:

(1) drive slow – not too much past 55
(2) accelerate slowly
(3) don’t brake unnecessarily
(4) use cruise control – whenever it is safe to do so.

Don’t coast – it is NOT safe (to coast in Nuetral) and it does NOT save gas. It only saves gas, if you are planning to slow down (exiting, tolls, traffic). Coasting then accelerating again is LESS efficient than just cruising.

The above really works. Using those simple rules I was able to drive from Boston to NYC (210.5 miles) on just 5.112 gallon (94 Civic). That’s 41 MPG (94 Civic 187K miles). Actually I was speeding at 72 MPH so I could do even better at 55.

WOW !!

As simple as that…

Good luck…

Q: What is the difference between the 2009 ford focus and the 2010?
I’m buying a new ford focus and i was wondering what the difference between getting the 2009 and the 2010? I will be getting the SES coupe with mostly all of the upgrades !

A: I research the 09 and 10 model and the different is that the 10 version SES model comes standard 17 inch painted alloy wheels, standard abs with dynamic control, ford sync system now is upgraded to a navgation, traffic, and info system and last the mykey feature which now the remote keyless entry is ingrated to the key. Keep in mind 09 model are better deal cuzz u get the 2500 dollars rebate while the 10 version u get only 1000 rebate. My dad bought the 2009 ford focus SES and he got it for 10999 plus tax and fee and the msrp is 19375 so pretty much rape the ford dealership. Good Luck

Q: 2001 ford focus acting up with the running lights?
I have the 2001 ford focus last night it kept blowing the 10 amp running light fuse. Today when a mechanic tried reproducing the symptons it wouldnt blow for him. All lights are working no shorts were detected Any tips?

A: try putting in a bigger fuse id say a 30 amp if it blows that try a 40 and if it blows that then you should take it to a garage again
