Q: I want more horsepower out of my 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS, where should I start?
I just bought a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS and I love it. I would like to add some more HP to it though over the next few months. I don’t want to spend a huge amount of money and I wouldn’t do any of the work myself. I also don’t want to mess with the look of the car as I like the way it looks stock. So where should I start and what’s the best bang for my buck at the lower levels? Thanks for any input.
A: By selling it, and starting with a GST, or GSX.
Ultimately, that IS your best bang for the buck.
You’re starting with one of the lowest versions of the Eclipse, and the few cheap things you can do to it, won’t improve your horsepower much at all. In the end, to get up to the level of a stock GST, you’ll spend more than if you had gotten that car in the first place.
Q: How can I tell if my Mitsubishi Eclipse is a GS or a GS-T model?
I’ve got a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS (T?) and I’ve been curious about if it’s the turbo model or not. There’s apparently three different engine styles, 2.0L, 2.4L, and 2.0L Turbo. My engine is 2.0L.
What are some things I can look for specifically on the engine to tell if the car is a turbo model? Where is the turbo located and what exactly does it look like?
A: Lol!!! Lauren G is quite confused with her information. You cannot depend on the exterior looks because it maybe modified by the previous owner, if you got it used. Stickers? Nah! They might have been taken out during it’s existence.
Okay, first info you must know. You have a 2.0L engine ‘coz they only come with that in coupe. The Spyder comes with either a 2.4L or a 2.0L turbo. To know whether it’s a turbo or not, look for the pulleys and belts. If they’re on the left hand side (when you’re looking at the engine bay), it’s a non-turbo. If they’re on the right hand side, chances are you have a turbo. The bulge on the hood of the car has a function in the turbo Eclipse. It’s there to house the protruding pulleys when the hood is closed. If your car has a turbo, look for the turbo close to the exhaust manifold. It looks like a small curled up trumpet or a big metal snailshell. The intercooler on those Eclipses are tiny. It’s somewhere right in front of the front wheelwells. I think it’s on the left side. It’s almost as big as 2 bricks put together. You hear no blow-off valves hissing when it comes stock. (Lol Lauren G!!!). All the information I gave you is stock specs.
Q: Where can I find information on a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS O-Z Rally Edition?
I just bought a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS O-Z Rally Edition, and I can’t find info on it anywhere. I want to know the specs., including horsepower and upgrades, and not even the dealer knows.
I know about the Lancer, but Mitsubishi also made a limited number of Eclipse O-Z Rally Editions, I know becasue the dealership told me. I know I have to order parts for my car for the upgrades through Mitsubishi as well, and not through O-Z. This I a website of another guy who owns one, http://projecteclipse99.tripod.com/
A: you can check online with mitsubishi’s website and send them an email, or you could go to yahoo/google/msn and search it. you shouldn’t have any problem finding it. Also, www.conceptcarz.com and www.cardomain.com should have information about it.
Q: Cold air intake or short air intake for my 07 mitsubishi eclipse gs?
I have a 2007 mitsubishi eclipse gs, and i was going to order a cold air intake. Then i heard about a short air intake, and i was wondering what the difference is and which one i should get for my car?
A: I would strongly recommend getting the Cold Air Intake. The Main difference between the two, is that the short ram only comes with one pipe usually connecting from the intake manifold to the sensor, then you will replace the old filter box with the actual cone filter. The Cold air version takes it a step further by including an additional pipe which will extend from the sensor down to about the bottom of your bumper. Many will dispute the horsepower advantages of both intakes, but I like the cold air generally because it creates that deep air intake sound, and trust me you’ll love it too!
Q: How did i match the wires from my 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS To my Kenwood Radio?
The wires in my 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Are different colors than the ones on my Kenwood deck, how do i match them up if they are not the same colors without buying a harness. Can someone tell me please how to match them up together so i can hook up my radio.
A: Just buy a harness, it will make your life much easier, especially since you won’t run the risk of damaging/ruining the factory harness by splicing into it.
For $10 at autozone, it’s a cheap way to ensure that things don’t go wrong.
Also, you might check out www.installdr.com too. If you’ve never installed a stereo before, it will be very helpful to you.

I’m looking to buy a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS and do not know what the common problems for the Eclipse are. Just common problems that are associated with the car.

Q: Where can i buy a fully built 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Performance engine?
Where can i buy a fully built 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Performance engine?
A: To answer your question howell automotive has been selling 420a crate motors for quite a long time. They take at least a month if not 2 or 3 to build and it’s a slow process for them. It would be better to buy a bottom end kit or even just some forged pistons and rods and build your motor to the specs that you want. It depends on what you’re after though, if your going for boost then get low compression pistons, if you’re going for na then get high compression pistons.
You can get the pistons and rods on ebay fairly cheap now (way cheaper than when i built my motor) so it shoudln’t be that big of a hassle.
I can even walk you though the process if you want to contact me via yahoo.
Anyway here’s a few links in the souce box for you.
Q: Anyone know the top speed on a stock 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS?
I’m about to purchase a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. It has the 2.4L, 4 Cyl in it and it’s completely stock. I was just wondering if anyone has one and has been able to push it and see what it can do. I’m not a racer or looking to mod it just want to know what the car is capable of. Thank you for any input.
Thanks for the answers, I appreciate the help!
A: I have read a lot of blogs indicating that the stock 2001 Eclipse GS can go up to speeds of 125-130 mph. It is drag limited and going beyond 130 mph can be had with some engine mods of course.
Q: 1993 mitsubishi eclipse gs turn signal relay?
Where is the turn signal relay located on a 1993 mitsubishi eclipse gs? we need to fix this problem so it will pass inspection and get tagged. We got a new multi-function switch so thats not it. Thanks -Heylookitsbret-
How do i test if its a relay or the unit itself?
A: I’m not sure you have a relay for this, but you do have flashers, one for the turn signals, and one for the hazards, they are found under the dash, right behind the steering wheel in that area, they look like a relays but are not. Good Luck.

Q: I need a new front end for my 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS?
My front end bumber has almost been literally ripped off by various parking curbs.. I drive a 2003 Mitsubishi eclipse GS, and I need a new bumber with flood light hubs.. How much would that cost and where is the cheapest place where I can find a new standard front end ? Is it possible for whoever to mail a new bumber to me in florida?
A: Not sure on the prices for it but you should be able to find a cheap, used one that can be shipping to you using a site called U Need A Part, http://www.uneedapart.com. They will send your request to hundreds of salvage yards across the country who in turn will respond back with prices. Worked great when I needed parts for my Jetta =) Hope this helps you out!
Q: did they make a 96 Mitsubishi eclipse GS Without a tachometer ?
i just got a 96 Mitsubishi eclipse the guy i got it from told me its a gs but it don’t have a tachometer did they make a gs eclipse without a tachometer in 96 ?
A: I have been a fan of Mitsubishi Eclipse since its debut in 1989…I have never heard of an Eclipse L. That’s not to say there wasn’t a Dealer made special…but it’s not something DSM offered.
The GS has everything the Base and RS models have…but includes other things. So the tach was standard on everything from the RS to the GSX. I can’t image the dealer removing the tach to sell the car.
My guess is the owner has a Base Eclipse that the dealer installed a wing and other parts to sell it at a higher price than the base model but lower than the GS…
Bottom line, it’s a base model Eclipse, not a GS.
Q: What is the tire pressure for a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS?
I have a 01 Eclipse GS and was wondering what the tire pressure should be. The previous owner took off the sticker in the door panel for some reason (I assume for a paint job) and the manual doesn’t say. I know it says it on the side of the tires, but some cars have different tire pressure compared to what it says on the tires.
Also, these are stock rims and tires (im pretty sure).
A: Nearly all cars have a different recommended inflation pressure from what it says on the sidewall of the tire. What is says on the side of the tire is simply how much weight the tire can carry at its maximum inflation pressure. That is not a recommendation.
Recommended tire inflation pressure for a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS with the stock size P205/55R16 89H tires is 32 psi front, 29 psi rear.
