Q: What are the stock speaker specs for a 1997 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am?
I have been looking for hours to find out what kind of speakers I have in my car from the factory. It is a 1997 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am convertible. They are 6″ round speakers, not 6.5″ but I am looking for the ohm rating, wattage, etc. If anyone knows where to find this information, please reply, thanks!!!
A: On most “factory” speakers if you remove them, the info your looking for is on the back of the magnet.
Q: Changing Spark Plugs on a 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans AM?
I have a 305 in my Trans Am. I can reach the front two sparks with a little diffaculity, but figured out how. I am having problems reaching the back two. And hints on reaching these plugs? This is on both sides of the engine. On the drivers side, I have all the brake lines, and the master cylinder in the way, and vacume lines on the passenger side.
A: take the wheels off and go through the wheel wells on it ,this should let you get to them,i had a 91 that i had to do this way, very tight to work on those, good luck.
Q: tiny bit confused. How do the radiator get air on a 1993-2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am without a grill?
Every front engine car I know has a grill with openings so air can get to the radiator but the 1993-2002 Trans Am don’t. So how does the radiator stay cool with no air flowing through it?
A: The same way the previous generation got air, from underneath. There’s a big plastic air dam underneath the radiator support that directs air up into the radiator and condenser.
BTW, there are PLENTY of cars that done have front grilles to allow air to hit the front of the radiator(my 89 Trans Am and C5 ‘vette being two).
Q: Pontiac Firebird Trans Am in the future?
Now that Chevy decided to bring back the Camaro do you think they might consider bringing back the Firebird Trans Am? I would like to see them bring my car back. What do you think?
A: Through the upper ranks of POCI I have heard that it will be back, but I think that Pontiac wants to see the sales of the Chevy Camaro.
Q: How much should Pontiac Firebird Trans Am struts and shocks cost?
My car is making grinding sounds when I turn the wheel. I am guessing I need new struts. What would a good price be from a local shop?
its a trans am v8 1998
A: year and model is helpful info….
no one can give an accurate answer without it.
ride quality is generally the clue with shock/strut failure, not grinding sounds.
if its really bouncy, doesnt want to settle down after a bump, then look at your suspension.
Q: How hard is a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am to maintain?
I wanna buy a 86 to 89 bird TAM but i don’t know how much maintenance it needs.
A: Not hard at all, my 89 has 140K on it and going strong. Keep in mind it’s an 80’s GM product…stupid stuff WILL break on it.
Q: Where can i find a 1976 pontiac firebird trans am that isnt fully restored?
I would like it with the gold bird on the hood because that’s how my dads was when he was a kid. I want to get it for him as a thank you fof everything. I don’t want it restored because they are way to expensive. I’m looking to spend under 5k. Thanks
A: saw one on e-bay a few days ago don’t know if its still there or not
Q: How Does a Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am Handle in snow and rain?
is it a reliable car?
A: Ok as for snow you had better be light on the throttle and careful with any brake and steering input. Rain on the other hand you’ll fair better as long as you avoid standing water and be careful when accelerating. Not a car for an inexperienced driver.
Q: Does a Pontiac Trans Am bumper fit on a Firebird?
I have a 2000 Pontiac Firebird. I need to replace the front bumper after a minor accident. I found a great deal on a 2000 Trans Am bumper. Can I use this to replace it?? The seller is advertising it as Firebird bumper, but its clearly a Trans Am’s.
A: I Firebird and a Trans Am are the same car under body panels so yes it should fit.
Q: My 95 Pontiac firebird Trans Am LT 1 isn’t running right.?
I have a 1995 Pontiac Trans AM with 13000 miles on it. I just recently bought it. It had been sitting for over a year, It does start and run, though not like a LT 1 should. Some times it won’t start sometimes it does then it will quite on me after i drive it for awhile. I have replaced battery, mass air flow sensor, spark plugs, throttle position sensor, fuel cap, PCV valve, fuel filter, and taken out a restricitve muffler that was in place of the cat’s. I have checked the altanator which is working proberly. I have tried numerous code reader’s, It is a 16 pin which doesn’t work with 95 and prior and 96 through present doesn’t have on program Any ideas?

Thought i’d add a little bit more info..The car had been checked for codes that is why the sensors have been replaced, other parts are standard replacement for a car that has been in storage for this long. I bought the car for $ 2 500 and haven’t spent much more than $ 500 on it so far.
A: Holy cow!!! Quit replacing parts!!!
Take it to a reputable shop and pay $100 for an engine system diagnostic. NOT JUST A COMPUTER SCAN.
Q: My car is a 93 pontiac firebird(trans am) and won’t start half the time.?
It just had a starter put on it and the battery is new as well. Any ideas why it won’t start when i try all it does is click? I was told my anti-theft system could cause it.
My starter is brand new, and so is my battery both installed by a shop and there is no crud or junk effecting the connections.
A: Disable the anti-theft system and see if it starts regularly. It sounds like you have some bad wiring or loose connections.
Q: Could a 1998 Pontiac Firebird Trans AM (300 hp) beat a turbo civc (240 hp) in a 1/4 drag race?
I have a 98 trans am and theres a kid with a 240 hp 98 honda civic that runs low thirteens and i was wondering if i could take him down in a 1/4 drag race.
I live in the Spokane Wa area
A: LS1 Trans Ams are low 13 second cars. I’ve also seen them with just drag radials and a cat back exhaust system run high 12’s. This race would be determined by the drivers ability.
Q: Pontiac Firebird Trans am Vs Chevrolet Camaro z28?
I am looking to buy either a trans am or a z28 ( 1998-2002). Can you recommend me which one i should go with? Which one performs better, gets better gas mileage (with a manual transmission). Which one is cheaper?
A: As everyone already said they are the same car. But I personally like the Camaro better.
Q: what is the average mpg on a 1999 pontiac firebird trans am?
i’ve heard it was about 15-17 city and low 20’s highway, but my dad, who makes these cars, says that this is inaccurate, and that it is really something like 11 city and 16-17 highway. what do you guys think? i have no clue. personally, 11mpg for city would be too low for me, so i’m just trying to find out the actual mpg. thanks!
A: I own a 1998 Trans Am 6-spd with 3.73 rear end gears.
-On a trip to Florida to NY I averaged 28mpg with the car loaded with all my crap from college
-Between driving to school, going to work, and spirited highway cruises with many WOT runs, 18mpg (60% city, 40% highway)
This is with full bolt ons, ls6 heads, and 3.73 gears. The gears increase my mpg’s by a bit, maybe by 1, 2, or 3. If you change your plugs, wires, fuel filter, and keep up on maintenance, you’ll get a lot more mileage out of your tank. You can also argue that I drive a 6spd and shift early, but thats not the case with me. I like to keep my revs high because I love the sound of the borla exhaust, and I always cruise to redlights in low gear/high revs.
If you drive your car right, you can easily get 18 city/30 highway
Q: 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP or a 1987 Pontiac firebird trans am?
Which do you prefer? and which do u think is faster?
A: Two different cars altogether. 87 TA will be faster, especially bone stock because the GP GTP has a top speed governor set at 125 MPH.
With modification, both cars can be very fast. Just decide on which you prefer and run with it.
